How Do Weight Fluctuations Affect Brazilian Butt Lift Results?

A Brazilian Buttocks Lift (BBL) is an incredible procedure that makes it possible for women to achieve the shapely physique they have always desired. Based on the premise of removing unwanted fat from one area of the body and transferring it to another area where more curvature is preferred, a BBL creates beautiful results worthy of preserving for years to come. Since weight fluctuations are common, it is important to understand how they can affect BBL results.

Preparing for a BBL is Key

The status of your total body health is important to the success and longevity of your BBL results. Most importantly, you should have achieved and maintained a stable, healthy weight before undergoing a BBL. If you are still in the process of losing weight at the time of your BBL procedure, your body’s natural healing processes will not be fully supported because your body will be more focused on burning up its fat stores. Since the last thing you want is for your body to burn newly transferred fat, being at a stable weight at the time of your BBL is key.

Maintaining the Size of Your Fat Cells

Another reason to achieve and maintain a stable, healthy weight before undergoing a BBL is to limit any fluctuations in the size of your fat cells. Fat cells do not increase or decrease in quantity as weight fluctuates; rather, they become larger or smaller in size. It is important to understand that the fat transferred as part of a BBL is still susceptible to these fluctuations in size as you gain or lose weight. If you gain weight after your BBL, you should expect the area where you received a fat transfer to become larger. Likewise, if you lose weight after your BBL, you should expect the area where you received a fat transfer to become smaller.

Planning Your BBL

A BBL is not the type of procedure to have done without ample preparation time. At your initial consultation with our board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Christopher Schaffer may recommend waiting to undergo your BBL until you have achieved a more stable and healthy weight. Second only to your safety, achieving incredible results is Dr. Schaffer’s priority. He will never perform a procedure that is a safety risk or not well-suited for a patient’s current physique. Dr. Schaffer will discuss any adjustments necessary in current health, baseline anatomy, or expectations for outcomes, along with step-by-step instructions to follow, before scheduling your procedure.

What to Expect Immediately After a Brazilian Buttocks Lift

Inflammation and swelling are normal for six weeks after a BBL and are not uncommon for 4 to 6 months in the areas of liposuction.  This occurs because the fat cells are not yet established in their new location. Patients should expect the buttock region to go through a few phases following the procedure before finally stabilizing in shape and size at around ninety days after the procedure. Many patients return to light daily activities within a few days following surgery, can return to work within a few weeks, and achieve normal activity after six weeks of restrictions.

The Best Way to Preserve Your BBL Results

Aside from following Dr. Schaffer’s instructions on how to sit and lie in positions that allow for a full recovery, avoiding drastic weight changes is the best way to preserve your BBL results. It is completely normal for a woman’s weight to slightly fluctuate over the course of a month, and these small fluctuations will not interfere with your BBL results. Gaining and losing significant amounts of weight, however, can have a detrimental impact on BBL results. Healthy eating and regular exercise are necessary for preserving BBL results.
